WELCOME TO THE HOME PAGE OF
THE COOLUM ART GROUP
Coolum Art Group has been active in the area since 1968.
The group owes its beginning to the late Mrs Daisy Murphy BA. Daisy wanted to paint all her life but never had the opportunity. It was she who first wrote to the Adult Education Department and asked for Art Classes to be held in the District.
A teacher was appointed, the late Hazel Coulson, who later invited Thelma Brown to assist. They worked for four and a half years with a small group of students until the Department withdraw funding.
It has carried on since, becoming a non-profit organisation.
At the present time the Group holds to two major exhibitions a year, Easter and spring. At this time the group amalgamate with the local artisans who create Craft and Specialty Items and Art for the viewing and purchasing pleasure of Locals and Interstate visitors.
A meeting is held at the Civic Centre Coolum on the first Tuesday of every month at the 9:30am. At this meeting the attending committee and members discuss and swap ideas, critique each others work and advise on art materials and hanging techniques, conduct post-mortems on previous events, the Beach Gallery, Sales and Visitors, coast or interstate, exhibitions members entries and future exhibitions within the area.
There are 20 members at in the Group.
The Coolum Art Group has become a fixture within the community and over the past thirty years has supported various charities in the region, with donations from the profit from art shows and raffles for painting donated by the members.
The Coolum Art Group display their unique and creative Art work in all styles and in all mediums at the open air Beach Gallery on the Esplanade Coolum; next to the Coolum surf club, weather permitting. All welcome.
